Standard smartphone cameras present a fundamental problem for forensic documentation. HDR processing, colour correction, and computational photography features are applied automatically — and cannot be disabled through normal user controls. The result: fluorescence imagery that has been algorithmically altered before it has been captured.
The Astravar Capture App for iOS solves this at the hardware interface level. By accessing the camera below the standard photography API, it disables all enhancement processing and captures raw fluorescence data. Digital yellow and orange barrier filters are applied post-capture, not in-camera. Exported imagery carries a chain-of-custody metadata package that supports evidential use.
